Inlays and onlays are a highly effective way to restore moderately damaged or decaying teeth towards the back of the mouth. They are strong, look natural and can last many years.
If a tooth is too decayed for a normal filling but not damaged enough to require a whole new crown, it can be restored using inlays and onlays. These are commonly known as partial crowns and are less expensive than full crowns. They will protect the tooth and provide the strength and stability required for normal chewing.
A dental inlay is used in the centre of the tooth whilst onlays are placed on the outer parts of the tooth. The treatment is typically split over two appointments, with preparation and an impression of the tooth taken at the first visit.
Once the inlay or onlay has been created it is cemented into place for an almost invisible result.
